The final presentations will be held next class: Dec 2. You have 10 min max. to present. The whole class will be presenting on the same day, therefore we may go about 1 hour longer.

Please address these points:

• Did you have a transformative experience over the internship?  how you may have changed since starting the internship?
• how you may use the skills that you’ve learned in the future?
• do you have goals for continuing with the internship? was there an on-going relationship that was developed? have you developed a network of contacts that will benefit your practice?
• comment on the working relationship with the organization, working in a collaborative environment, the organization’s flexibility, the organization’s communication about the projects
• how your expectations of the internship changed over time? (what you ended up actually doing vs. what was initially proposed.)
• mention the tasks and accomplishments that occurred after the midterm presentation.

We have hired an “Answer Person”, Zack Marlow-McCarthy, (zmarlow-mccarthy@ecuad.ca), who can assist students with software questions. He has experience with all Adobe software, including Premiere and Final Cut Pro plus he’s awesome!!

He will be available on Mondays and Tuesdays from 11:30-1:30 at a computer terminal in the Digital Labs (beside AV) in the North Building. Students can drop by the lab during these times to get help from Zack. He can also be available for email help during these times.

The Mid Term Report (MTR) is intended to be a document of what you have been involved in during your internship so far.You should address these questions:

1. What have you been working on?

2. What have you learned?

3. How has your role and work shifted from your initial Scope of Work?

4. Are there any new goals that have been defined?

For your MTR you expected to be creative! It should contain the following information:

• Images that document what you have been working on, and any other visual information that you think would help show your involvement in your internship

• A description or list of the things you have been involved with outlining your role and contribution.

• A description or list of what you have learned.

• A description or list of what you hope to achieve and any new goals.

Delivery of your SOWR

You are asked to present your MTR during the class of Oct 28 or Nov 4. Once you have given your presentation you are to upload a PDF version of your MTR to your blog for me to download.

When we think about learning computer programming it can be really scary at first. Computers are these very complex and intimidating things that can do so much. How is it possible for ‘non-engineers’ to learn about programming when it is so very complex. The answer is simple, don’t try to build a computer for your first project! If you think of it in terms of painting, you would not think about painting a mater piece until you have first learned about what a paint brush is or what a specific type of paint can do.

The basics of computer programming and electronics hardware are actually really easy to learn and can be very useful tools for artists interested in exploring interactive work.

So what we will do together in the class is first talk about the simple idea of a program (with some fun examples). Then we will use the popular “Processing” (http://processing.org) program to build a small interactive visual program together. Finally, we will be making the program ‘work’ in real life by using an Arduino (http://www.arduino.cc/) microcontroller. If we have time we will combined the interactive “Processing” program with the Arduino hardware.

So we will go from simple idea, to a computer program and then to a working physical thing all together as a class. Students will have a chance to ask questions and get involved throughout the whole class. The underlining theme or title of the class is ‘fun with moving colors’.
